Nvidia Acquires AI Startup CentML in Strategic Expansion Move
Nvidia (NVDA) has solidified its position in the AI infrastructure space with the acquisition of Toronto-based CentML, a startup specializing in hardware optimization for AI workloads. The deal brings key talent into Nvidia's fold—including CentML's CEO Gennady Pekhimenko, now serving as senior director of AI software, along with 15 engineers transitioning to the chipmaker.
The acquisition follows Nvidia's prior involvement as an investor in CentML's $27 million seed round last year. Existing collaborations through Nvidia's accelerator program made this a natural consolidation. CentML will cease operations by July 17, though not all staff survived the transition—some roles were eliminated during organizational restructuring.
